East Medinipur, 5 June (H.S.): Local residents protested in front of the temple on Thursday morning demanding the recruitment of local laborers in the Jagannath temple in Digha.
As per information, laborers are being recruited from outside for all the work of the temple. Contractor companies are also hiring people from other places. In such a situation, local laborers are being deprived of work. The protest was held on Thursday demanding their recruitment. In view of the increasing tension, a large number of police forces have reached the area. The Police from outpost and Digha police station are on the spot. The police is trying to resolve the matter by talking to the local people.
Notably, since the Digha Jagannath Temple project, the Chief Minister had assured that there would be great employment opportunities for the local residents here. Radharaman Das, one of the members of the trustee board said, The Jagannath temple is going to change the socio-economic character of Digha.
When thousands of devotees will come here, the socio-economic character of this area will change. The people here will benefit. Businessmen related to hotels and transport will benefit. Those who sell flowers and garlands will benefit, he added.
But, the local residents complain that there are employment opportunities, but they are not for all the local residents, but for outsiders. The protest was held on Thursday against this.
