Bhubaneswar, 5 June (H.S.): Constable 1Tulu Behera of the Odisha Police exhibited remarkable courage and quick thinking on Thursday morning, saving the life of a passenger at Cuttack Railway Station.
At approximately 8:05 a.m., Md. Mujahir, a 44-year-old traveler from Mirjapur in Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, attempted to board the moving Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Express (Train No. 22503) en route to Kishanganj. In the process, he slipped from the train’s steps and became trapped in the narrow space between the platform edge and the train’s wheels. Witnesses feared the worst as the train continued to move.
Reacting immediately, Constable Behera leapt forward and, with exceptional presence of mind, seized Mujahir’s arms and pulled him safely out of harm’s way. His decisive intervention prevented what could have been a fatal accident.
Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania, IPS, has announced a reward of ₹2,500 in recognition of Constable Behera’s bravery. Arun Bothra, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) for Coastal Security and Railways, personally commended Behera for his valor, praising his unwavering composure and swift action under pressure
