Nadia, 5 June (H.S.): A man was tied to a pole and beaten up on suspicion of being a thief in Panch Matha crossing area of Krishnanagar in Nadia district on Thursday morning.
According to local sources, construction work was going on at the house of a person named Sourajit Biswas in Panch Matha crossing area in the morning. The construction workers of the house had gone out to take tea. Then a person entered the house and allegedly tried to steal the mobile phone of the house owner and that of the workers. At the same time, Sourajit's son saw that person. He was questioned as he was an unknown person. Then the person tried to run away. When an attempt was made to stop the accused, a scuffle broke out between the duo. Seeing the scene, the local people reached Sourajit's house and the accused was caught. Then he was tied to a pole on the roadside and beaten up. On information, the police of Kotwali police station reached the spot. The accused was rescued and taken to the police station. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
