Bhadohi,
5 June (HS): A man suspected of gangraping a 40-year-old Dalit woman in Bhadohi
district in 2018 has been detained, according to police on Thursday. According
to Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik, Sudama Singh was caught from his
home in Domanpur village in the Chauraon region on Wednesday night after a
tip-off and was brought before a court on Thursday. According to Manglik, the
incident occurred on September 18, 2018, as the victim was on her way to get
medication. Sunil Kumar Saroj, a Domanpur resident, stopped her near Sahib Baba
Mazar. Sudama Singh and Tinku Singh came
shortly thereafter. Three people
reportedly carried her into a neighboring orchard and raped her in turns. Manglik claimed the victim was abused and had
her mouth covered when she attempted to scream.
The
attack lasted over three hours, and the accused escaped. The victim filed a
police complaint the next day, and a case was opened against Saroj, Sudama Singh,
and Tinku Singh under Indian Penal Code sections 376D (gangrape), 120B
(criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation),
and sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Saroj and Tinku Singh
were caught and jailed immediately after the FIR was filed. However, Sudama Singh has been on the run
since the event. According to Manglik, a special SC/ST court issued a
non-bailable warrant against him. The officer stated that legal actions against
him are already underway.
