Sribhumi (Assam), 5 June (HS): The floating body of a youth was recovered on Thursday from a reservoir affected by the erosion of the Longai river in Patharkandi area of Assam. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Haque, who was a resident of a house located near the erosion.

According to the information received, the rising waters of the Longai river caused erosion in the Bilbari area last Sunday. At the same time, Abdul Haque had left the house to bring goods from the market, but since then he was missing.

Local people saw a body floating in a nearby reservoir today and immediately informed the police. Police and SDRF team reached the spot and took the body out of the reservoir. The family identified the body as Abdul Haque.

According to the family, on the day the river was eroded, he somehow went to bring ration by passing through the erosion, but did not return. After the news of the body being found, a wave of mourning has spread in the entire area.

The police have sent the body to Karimganj Civil Hospital for post-mortem and further investigation is underway. ---------------
