Nadia, 5 June (H.S.): A 33-year-old biscuit trader was crushed to death by a ten-wheeler vehicle in a road accident that took place on Thursday afternoon at Nimtala crossing of Nagarukhra police outpost under Haringhata police station in Kalyani of Nadia district.
According to police sources, the name of the deceased is Dipankar Sarkar. He is a resident of Nahta Sherpur area under Gopalnagar police station. He was a biscuit trader. He had gone to work on Thursday like any other day. After delivering biscuits from one shop at Nimtala crossing, he was going to another shop. At the same time, a ten-wheeler lorry coming from behind hit him. He fell on the road due to the collision. The wheels of the lorry crushed the person. Local people reached the spot after seeing the incident and Nagarukhra police outpost under Haringhata police station was informed about the incident. On information, the police reached the spot. The person was taken to Haringhata Rural Hospital, where the doctors on duty declared Dipankar dead.
The police have seized the fatal lorry. However, the lorry driver is absconding. The incident has created tension in the area. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
