Bhubaneswar, 4 June (H.S.)In a significant crackdown on adulterated products, a joint team of the Commissionerate Police and the Weights and Measures Department on Wednesday unearthed a fake engine oil manufacturing unit in the Sunariban area near Khairapol, under Jagatpur police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The operation was carried out following intelligence inputs and complaints from local residents who had raised concerns over suspicious activities in the locality. During the raid, officials found that the unit was involved in recycling used and burnt engine oil collected from various garages and repackaging it under the labels of prominent lubricant brands to dupe customers.
The Weights and Measures Department flagged several serious violations, including incorrect labelling, inflated pricing, and false warranty claims, all intended to mislead and exploit consumers.
While the owner of the illicit facility managed to escape just prior to the raid, the police detained the factory manager for questioning. A large quantity of counterfeit stock was seized from the premises, including engine oils, grease, brake fluids, and lubricants meant for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Authorities have launched a deeper investigation into the supply chain and distribution network of the fake products. Legal action is underway against the individuals involved.
