Morigaon (Assam), 3 June (HS): Due to the failure of the police, two cattle thieves escaped from police custody in Mayang. There is anger among the villagers after getting the information of the escape of the thieves. Regarding last night's incident, Mayang police continued the raid operation to catch the thieves in various areas till Tuesday morning. But the police did not get any success.
The two cattle thieves who escaped from police custody have been identified as Asadul and Musraf, residents of Kusiani under Mayang police station. At present, the police have not been able to find any clue of the thieves. Villagers have expressed anger on getting the information of the escape of the thieves.
On the midnight of June 1, the villagers caught the thieves who came to steal cattle in Barkurani of Mayang. Later, both of them were beaten up and handed over to the police. However, the other four thieves managed to escape from the spot.
The police presented them in the court of Morigaon on Monday, from where the court sent both the thieves to police custody for two days. It was dark when they were returning from the court with the thieves. Meanwhile, as soon as they reached Kusiani village, a little distance from the police station, i.e. the house of the thieves, they got the chance and escaped by opening the handcuffs and jumping from the moving vehicle. The police kept running a drive to catch the thieves in the village throughout the night, but they have not got success yet. Many questions are being raised on the police regarding the incident of two thieves opening the handcuffs and running away from the police vehicle.
