Lucknow,
03 June (HS): To provide better facilities, respectful behaviour and full
support to the disabled in public transport, the State Minister of State
(Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Disabled Empowerment,
Narendra Kashyap held an important meeting with the officials of the Transport
Department in Room No. 7, New Building, Secretariat on Tuesday. In the meeting,
a concrete strategy for the travel arrangements, problems and solutions of the
disabled was discussed.
The
Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities directed the officials to
prepare a detailed record of the journeys undertaken by the Divyangjans, which
should include the name of each Divyangjan passenger, mobile number, UID card,
number of journeys so far and details of the companion travelling with them.
This report should be prepared in a timely manner and submitted to the
department. He said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath intends that
Divyangjans should not only be given priority in every public facility, but
their self-respect should also be taken care of. From this point of view, the
Transport Department should ensure that the bus drivers and conductors behave
cooperatively and sensitively with the Divyangjans during the journey.
The
Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities directed that a workshop
be organised in which all drivers and conductors should be trained through
master trainers on how to behave with the disabled, how to provide assistance
and what things to pay special attention to. This training should be
behaviour-based and practical. He also said that if a complaint is received of
indecency, neglect or inappropriate behaviour with the disabled by any driver
or conductor, the concerned personnel should be identified and strict punitive
action should be taken. The aim of the Yogi government is that the disabled
should not only get social respect, but also provide them the opportunity to
travel with convenience, safety and dignity without any hindrance in basic
services like transport.
