Barpeta (Assam), 3 June (HS): A major road accident took place in the Kalgachia area of Barpeta district of Assam on Tuesday morning. A passenger bus running at high speed went out of control and fell into a water-filled pond on the side of the road.
According to the information received, a large number of passengers including men, women and children were on board the bus. Immediately after the accident, the local people showed promptness and started rescue work and pulled out the passengers.
The injured were immediately admitted to Barpeta Medical College Hospital. According to reports, several passengers of the bus have been injured.
A passenger on the bus said that he was traveling with two children, when suddenly the bus went out of control and fell into the pond. He says that the bus was fully loaded.
Another passenger told that after the accident, he somehow got out and joined the rescue work himself. Passengers say that everyone has been evacuated safely, but there is a fear that someone might be trapped inside the pond.
The local administration and rescue team have started efforts to pull the bus out of the pond. A passenger said that all his luggage was in the bus, which was completely ruined.
The administration has started investigating the accident.
