Nagpur, 03 June
(HS): The NTPC, under its social corporate responsibility (CSR) Fund, will
support establishment of a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit at the All India
Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur
The initiative conceptualised
by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis aims to provide treatment for patients
suffering from sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia in Nagpur. Their dependence
on treatment facilities in Mumbai will be reduced.
A Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) has been signed between NTPC and AIIMS for the purpose.
NTPC will support infrastructure development and treatment of needy patients at
the BMT unit.
Fadnavis thanked
NTPC for the support in setting up the MBT unit at AIIMS, Nagpur. The unit
would become an important medical facility in Central India, especially for
children, tribal communities and patients from rural areas. Fadnavis
highlighted the importance of the facility, as sickle cell anaemia and
thalassaemia is prevalent prominently among tribals and backward classes in
Central India. The BMT Unit will be established in the AIIMS premises in MIHAN.
