03 June (HS): For the rehabilitation and training of destitute women suffering
from mental retardation and multiple disabilities, the Department of
Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Uttar Pradesh has established a
50-bedroom residential capacity Mental Retardation Ashray Grih cum
Training Center (Women) in Lucknow. This center was inaugurated by the
State Minister (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Disabled
Empowerment, Narendra Kashyap on Tuesday.
The
Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities distributed kits
containing essential items of daily use to all the women residing at the
centre. He said that the state government is committed to the protection,
rehabilitation and empowerment of such destitute mentally retarded women who
have been victims of social neglect. “This centre will not only provide them
safe accommodation but will also make them self-reliant through necessary training,”
he added.
On
the occasion of inauguration, keeping in mind the fourth Tuesday of the month
of Jyeshtha, a bhandaar was also organized by the department, in which the
Honorable Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities himself
distributed prasad and blessed all the inmates. On this occasion, Ranjit Singh,
Joint Director Headquarters, Monika Lal, Deputy Director, Lucknow Division,
Rajneesh Kiran, District Disabled Empowerment Officer, Lucknow, Village Head
Parwar Purba, Sarojininagar and other officers and employees of the department
were present.
