Lisbon, June 3 (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla stated that India adopts a zero tolerance policy against terrorism and that all countries should collaborate to create a joint strategy against this global threat. He described it as the biggest threat to global peace and human rights. Referring to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, he noted that it was an attempt to disrupt India's progress and social harmony, which Indian security forces thwarted under Operation Sindoor.
Birla expressed these views during a bilateral meeting with José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal. He is leading the Indian delegation participating in the 11th BRICS parliamentary forum. He mentioned that the relations between India and Portugal are over 500 years old and have strengthened in recent years. Bilateral trade has increased by 50 percent, and there are immense opportunities for cooperation in areas such as energy, defense, and digital technology. Birla informed that the Indian parliament is moving towards a technology-based transparent system. Proceedings are being made available in 22 constitutional languages through the Digital Parliament and AI, which has increased public participation. During his visit to Lisbon, he also met with Tuvalu's Minister, Mina Talia, and discussed India-Tuvalu cooperation.
