North 24 Parganas, 3 June (H.S.):

During the duty change at the check post of Naka checking in 10 Mile area under Gopalnagar police station of North 24 Parganas district, a constable tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head with the service revolver of the officer in charge of Naka checking at around 10:20 pm on Monday night. According to police sources, the name of the injured constable is Bibhas Ghosh. He is a constable of SAP(2) battalion of Gopalnagar police station.

Bibhas was immediately taken to Bangaon sub-division hospital in a seriously injured condition. On information, Bangaon District Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar reached Bangaon sub-division hospital. However, when Bibhas' condition deteriorated, he was later admitted to PG Hospital in Kolkata. The police said that the injured constable Bibhas was taking nerve drugs for a long time. It is suspected that he tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head. The police is investigating why and for what reason he took such a step as shooting himself in the head.
