South 24 Parganas, 3 June (H.S.): A boat from Gosaba in South 24 Parganas district was going to Gadkhali on Tuesday afternoon with 60 passengers. A storm started in the middle of the river. However, the passengers were saved with the efforts of the sailor. Many of them jumped into the river and swam to the shore.

According to sources, on Tuesday afternoon, suddenly dark clouds, wind and heavy rain started in the coastal areas of South 24 Parganas. At that time a boat was running from Gosaba to Gadkhali. The boat got stuck in heavy storm and rain in the middle of Vidyadhari river. The sailor tried to reach the river bank by any means. But due to the strong storm it was not possible. At that time many passengers jumped from the boat into the river and swam to the shore. They barely saved their lives. On the other hand, with the efforts of the sailor, he somehow managed to take the boat to the drain and tie it to a tree. When the storm subsided, he brought the boat to the ghat and disembarked the remaining passengers. The passengers were terrified by the incident. Mamoni Saha and Vishal Mandal said, Today it felt as if death came from the front. Suddenly a storm started in the middle of the river. The sailor could not take the boat to the shore. Meanwhile, strong waves came in the river and the boat got filled with water. So I had to jump into the river and swim to the shore. Sailor Ganesh Adhikari said, When I left Gosaba with the boat, the sky was clear. Suddenly the sky turned bad. Strong waves came in the river. It was also raining heavily. I could not take the boat to the shore. I somehow entered the drain and tied it to a tree. Many people jumped into the water and swam to the shore. There could have been danger in this horrific situation. After this incident, the police have become active. Special attention is being paid to the fact that there should not be more passengers in the boat to cross the river. Apart from this, attention is also being paid to the fact that the route to cross the river should be closed in times of disaster.
