New Delhi, June 3 (H.S.): On Tuesday, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj filed a reply in the Rouse Avenue Sessions Court challenging the magistrate court's order to dismiss the criminal defamation petition filed by former Delhi government minister Satyendar Jain. Special judge Jitendra Singh ordered the next hearing in this case to be held on July 4 to hear arguments from both sides. During the hearing on Tuesday, Bansuri Swaraj's Advocate, Manya Hasija and T. Ilaiyarasu, stated that they had already filed a response to Satyendar Jain's petition on May 30. Both parties requested time to present their arguments during the hearing, after which the court scheduled the next hearing for July 4.

The Session Court had issued notice on March 7 for the petition challenging the magistrate court's order. On February 20, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal ordered the dismissal of Satyendar Jain's petition. During the proceedings in the magistrate court, Bansuri Swaraj, in her response, characterized Satyendar Jain's petition as politically motivated. A lawyer representing Bansuri Swaraj stated during the hearing that the allegations made by Jain were raised in light of the assembly elections in Delhi. He noted that Jain had also been in judicial custody in this matter.

The petition stated that Bansuri Swaraj made defamatory statements in an interview broadcast on a TV channel on October 5, 2023. In that statement, Bansuri Swaraj labeled Satyendar Jain as corrupt and fake. These statements were false and had no bearing on the truth. Satyendar Jain mentioned in the petition that Bansuri Swaraj made this statement to tarnish his reputation. Through this statement, Bansuri Swaraj aimed to gain undue political advantage. The interview was viewed by millions, and there was an attempt to damage his image.Cases of disproportionate assets and money laundering are ongoing against Satyendar Jain. He was arrested in this matter on May 30, 2022, and was granted bail on October 18, 2024.
