Allegations of PMGSY Fund Misuse: Amit Malviya Slams Mamata Banerjee's Government

Kolkata, 3 June (H.S.): BJP’s central observer for West Bengal and national IT cell head, Amit Malviya, has launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led government, accusing it of large-scale corruption in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). He claimed that due to rampant misuse of central funds, the Union Government was compelled to halt the release of fresh allocations under the scheme for West Bengal.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Malviya stated, “Mamata Banerjee’s Bengal is descending into despair and helplessness. She recently questioned why the Centre stopped disbursing PMGSY funds to the state. The answer is simple — Trinamool Congress leaders diverted the funds meant for public welfare to serve their personal interests.”

Citing an example from West Midnapore’s Daspur area, Malviya pointed out that roads in the region were completely destroyed during the floods caused by the Kangsabati and Kansai rivers in 2018. However, he alleged that not a single repair project has been undertaken in the last six years.

He further added that repeated pleas from local residents were ignored, forcing them to rely on boats for transportation for nearly three to four months every year. For the rest of the time, they are compelled to wade through muddy farmlands, risking their safety.

In a grim depiction of ground realities, Malviya alleged that in cases of medical emergencies, patients are carried on bamboo stretchers to reach ambulances, painting a picture akin to life in the 18th century. “This is a stark example of administrative apathy and corruption under Trinamool Congress rule,” he remarked.

Malviya emphasized that the crisis is not a result of lack of funds but stems from systemic corruption and negligence towards public needs. “West Bengal deserves better governance,” he asserted.

Notably, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have recently targeted the Trinamool government during public rallies in Alipurduar and Kolkata, accusing it of denying basic services to citizens due to widespread corruption.

According to BJP leaders, this corruption is entrenched at all levels within the ruling party, with the public bearing the brunt of its consequences.
