03 June (HS): Two cow smugglers were injured in a shootout between the police
and cow smugglers. The police arrested the injured smugglers and admitted them
to the district hospital for treatment.
Superintendent
of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said on Tuesday that around 2 o'clock in the night,
there was an encounter between the police and cow smugglers near the old canal
house on the road to village Inayatpur in the Nigohi police station area.
During this, the smugglers, seeing themselves surrounded, opened fire on the
police team. After which the police team took charge and in the retaliatory
action taken by the police, Bareilly resident Mohammad Shanu and Pilibhit
resident Anees were injured by bullets in their legs. The police arrested the
injured smugglers. The police recovered illegal weapons, cartridges, animal
slaughtering tools and an Ertiga car from the possession of the smugglers.

told that on May 31, smugglers along with some of their associates were loading
bovine animals on a pickup vehicle in village Chakramali. When police reached
the spot after getting the information, cow smugglers fled leaving the animals
behind. Police freed all bovine animals and sent them to Gaushala under the
supervision of village pradhan. Police was engaged in investigation of the smugglers
since then. He told that the arrested smugglers have told the names of some of
their associates to police. Police is making efforts to arrest them. Many
criminal cases are already registered against both the smugglers.
