Moscow, 28 June (H.S.): A light trainer aircraft, a Yakovlev Yak-18T, crashed in the Kolomna district of the Moscow region on June 28, resulting in the deaths of all four individuals onboard, consisting of crew and trainees. The aircraft was reportedly conducting an aerobatic maneuver when it encountered engine failure and crashed into a field, igniting a fire.
Despite the rapid response from emergency services, no survivors were found, and there were no injuries on the ground. Investigations are ongoing, with local media suggesting that the flight may not have had official clearance, raising concerns about safety and regulatory oversight in civilian training. The Prosecutor's Office has launched an independent investigation to assess potential negligence or procedural violations.
The Yak-18T is widely used for pilot training across former Soviet states, and this incident has reignited discussions regarding the safety of aging training aircraft still in operation. Identities of the victims remain unreleased.
More details are awaited in this regard.
