Nagpur,
28 June (HS): Supriya Sule, NCP (SP) MP, said on Saturday that the Indian
Constitution was the result of considerable debate and that no one would be
permitted to modify it. The Lok Sabha MP from Baramati was holding a news
conference in Nagpur.
Sule
responded to a question on RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's recent
proposal to examine the words'socialist' and'secular' in the Constitution's
preamble, saying that in a democracy; everyone has the freedom to speak up. He
expressed his feelings, Sule stated.
Addressing
an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Hosabale stated
that Baba Saheb Ambedkar's preamble to the Constitution never included these
phrases (socialist and secular). During
the Emergency, when fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament did not
function, and the courts became ineffective, these phrases were inserted.
Sule
said such scandals remind her of the late senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who
used to argue that if the media stopped highlighting these occurrences, people
wouldn't speak about it. The Constitution is the outcome of significant debate
and thought. We will not allow anyone to
change the Constitution in our nation, she declared.
When
questioned about the ongoing issue over Hindi for elementary school kids, Sule
inquired whether Hindi is required in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra
Pradesh, or Telangana. The Maharashtra
government recently issued an amended order requiring Hindi to be taught as the
third language to students in Marathi and English medium schools from Classes 1
to 5. This raises questions about why Hindi is being made mandatory in the
state.
