28 June (HS): Two people have been booked and one arrested for allegedly aiding
the suicide of a farmer in Maharashtra's Amravati district, police said on
Saturday. According to officials, the accused reportedly harassed and
intimidated the farmer after lending him money. He stated that based on the
victim's wife's allegation, police filed a case against brothers Prakash and
Atul Raghuvanshi under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) and other pertinent
sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Gajanan Dahat, a farmer from Bhatkuli
in Amravati, obtained a loan from Prakash Raghuvanshi, according to officials. According
to the lawsuit, the brothers continually harassed Dahat, intimidated him, and
attacked him with casteist insults. Fed up with incessant pestering, Dehat
reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself on March 16, according to
officials, who added that the case was filed earlier this week and one of the brothers
was detained.
