Noida,
26 June (HS): Beginning November 1, the
Noida Regional Transport Office (RTO) will no longer distribute fuel and diesel
to cars that have exceeded the allowed age limit—10 years for diesel and 15
years for petrol. This resolution, made
in accordance with Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines,
aims to reduce growing pollution levels throughout the National Capital
Region. Automatic Number Plate
Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be placed at petrol pumps in Noida and
Ghaziabad to enforce the prohibition.
These cameras will scan car number plates and immediately check their
age using the transportation department's database. Vehicles detected in violation will be
refused fuel on the spot.
According
to statistics from the Gautam Buddha Nagar Transport Department, over 2.08 lakh
cars in the area are classified as restricted.
Notices are already being sent to the owners of these cars, instructing
them to take the necessary measures. RTO
has encouraged owners to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before
transferring their car outside the NCR or relinquish it to the department.
Authorities have warned that failing to comply
might result in penalties and seizures.
Following the execution of the directive on November 1, transportation
and traffic authorities are likely to confront logistical challenges,
particularly in identifying and handling offenders. Disposing
of old vehicles would also be a huge issue in Noida once the order is enforced,
as there is no established procedure for disposing outmoded automobiles in the
district.
