Hooghly, 25 June (H.S.): A case has come to light in Hooghly jail where it took about a year to release a prisoner even after the order of the State Sentence Review Board. Samir Das was released from Hooghly jail on Tuesday evening after the Calcutta High Court accepted a contempt case in the matter.

Sameer Das, a daily wage laborer from Purshura in Hooghly, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006 for killing his aunt in a fit of rage. He was in jail for twenty years. The State Sentence Review Board had asked to release him a year earlier for good behavior in the correctional home. Despite this, his was not released from jail. approached the High Court after the judicial department did not implement the order. Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharya of accepted the contempt case. The hearing of the case has been fixed on the 27th June. Three days before that, Sameer Das was released from Hooghly jail on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday evening, lawyer Sampurna Ghosh took her client Samir Das from jail. In this context, the lawyer told that a year ago the State Sentence Review Board had ordered his release, but Samir Das was not released. For this reason, a case was filed in the High Court. On June 13, the judge accepted the case. The case was to be heard on June 27. But before that the prisoner was released. There are many such prisoners who are not getting released. The fight will continue for them. After being released, Samir Das said that he does not have his own family. He has a brother at home. He will go there. It feels good to be released from jail after so many days.
