Aizawl, 24 June (HS): In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Ministry of Home Affairs has named Sharad Agarwal as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Mizoram. An officer of the 1997 batch from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre, Agarwal succeeds Anil Shukla, who has been reassigned to Delhi.

Currently serving as Special Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing, in Delhi, Agarwal brings with him vast experience in handling financial crimes and high-level policing responsibilities.

Shukla, a 1996-batch IPS officer, took over the reins in Mizoram in June 2023 after Devesh Chandra Srivastava (1995 batch). His next posting has yet to be announced officially. The transfer and new appointment were formalised through government orders issued on Monday.

The decision follows earlier recommendations from Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who had reportedly pitched for David Lalrinsanga—a 1995-batch IPS officer—to be considered for the state’s top police position. However, the Centre opted to entrust the role to Agarwal.
