Hooghly, 24 June (H.S.)
The Arambagh Sub-divisional Court on Tuesday sentenced one person to death and 18 others to life imprisonment in a 14-year-old Trinamool leader's murder case. The court has ordered the death sentence for the area's Trinamool worker Baldev Pal. 12 people including the area's so-called Trinamool leader Saheb Pal, former Pradhan Tapas Khan and six left workers have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Hooghly district's Chief Public Prosecutor Shankar Gangopadhyay said that 9 December 2011 was the last day for filing nomination papers for the management committee of Saora Union High School in Goghat. On the same day, Trinamool leader Sheikh Naimuddin was shot dead. Naimuddin's wife had lodged a complaint in the Goghat police station. This case was going on for a long time on the basis of various evidences. On Monday, Additional District Sessions Judge of Arambagh Subdivision Court Kishan Kumar Agarwal convicted 19 people. The convicts included 6 CPM, 1 Forward Block and 12 Trinamool workers. However, the Left leadership claimed that their workers have been framed in the murder case as it was due to Trinamool factional rivalry. They will move to the High Court.
