Imphal, 24 June (HS): The Anti-Drug Smuggling Unit of Manipur Police conducted a joint operation with the central security forces and seized a huge quantity of banned drugs in the northern part of Thoubal district.
According to information given by the police PRO on Tuesday, based on the secret information and technical input, a quick operation was launched regarding the movement of suspicious vehicles from Moreh. During this, an abandoned vehicle was recovered near Lilong Arapati Bridge in Thoubal district.
During the search of the vehicle, the police seized WY (amphetamine) tablets weighing 3.258 kg. These tablets were being smuggled into the state from Myanmar, whose estimated price in the international illegal market is said to be around ₹15 crore.
The recovered vehicle was a dark grey colored Alto 800 (WB-26S/6240). During the search, a Xerox copy of the RC of another Alto (NL-05C/3245) was also found.
The police have handed over the seized vehicle and material to the concerned police station for further legal action. Officials said further investigation is underway to arrest the accused involved in this smuggling. --------
