Haflong (Assam), 24 June (HS): A massive landslide occurred on National Highway 27 in the Jatinga-Lampu area of Assam on Tuesday, temporarily blocking traffic on the Haflong-Silchar road.
In view of the landslide and slope sliding incident, the District Deputy Commissioner has asked the Assam State Disaster Management Authority for immediate technical and logistical assistance. Vehicle operation on this route has been banned under Section 34 (c) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The administration said that due to continuous rain and instability of the slope, alternative routes are also not safe. Travelers have been requested to avoid traveling on this route and rely only on official information.
The district administration has appealed to the NHAI and Railway Authority to send an expert team so that the slope can be stabilized by evaluating the site and traffic can be restored soon.
