Cachar (Assam), 24 June(HS): Based on a secret information, the Cachar Police launched a special operation against illegal drug trafficking in the ISBT area near Silchar bypass under Silchar Police Station in the early hours of Tuesday.
During this, two suspicious vehicles coming from Tripura—AS 01 EF/2494 (Bolero) and TR 01 BQ/0462 (Verna)—were stopped and during the search, 86 packets of ganja weighing about 576.58 kgs were recovered from these vehicles. The estimated price of the recovered material in the black market is estimated to be around ₹3 crore.
The police have arrested three accused residents of Tripura from the spot. They have been identified as Jyotish Debbarma (38), Prasan Debbarma (32) and Chiranjit Debbarma (31).
The presence of ganja was also confirmed with a drug detection kit at the spot. The police have sealed the seized substances in the presence of independent witnesses. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the ganja was brought from Dharmanagar area of Tripura. Intensive investigation into the case is underway.
