Goalpara (Assam), 24 June (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has given a stern warning to those who create unrest in the state, those doing anti-national work and anti-social elements. Talking to the media in Goalpara, Assam on Tuesday, he said that there is no place in Assam for anti-social elements, criminals and elements who spread hatred in the society.
Dr. Sarma had again visited Goalpara today. Responding to the questions of the media persons present there during his visit to Hasila Bill (lake) in Goalpara district, the Chief Minister warned the miscreants involved in keeping or selling beef in front of temples across the state. The Chief Minister said that if this is not stopped, then people of other parts will also have to face similar reaction. He has also made it clear that he does not expect all these evil acts from any part. In this context, the Chief Minister has called for a complete ban on the sale and consumption of beef.
The Chief Minister said, 'The beef trade must be stopped. If today beef is thrown near the temple, tomorrow pork can be found near the mosque too. But this is not acceptable. All these evil practices cannot be allowed to continue. Everyone should consider becoming vegetarian.'
Responding to a question related to illegal occupation of sensitive land, the Chief Minister said, 'If the encroachers submit a formal application to the administration in a proper manner, we are ready to sit and talk with them.'
Taking a dig at senior Congress leaders and MPs Rokibul Hussain and AK Rashid Alam, the Chief Minister accused them of hypocrisy. The Chief Minister said that when they themselves live in glass houses, how can they challenge the government? They have occupied government land and are even running brick kilns on the occupied land. They should first think about their actions.
Responding to another question, the Chief Minister said that every citizen has the right to travel throughout Assam. But they have to refrain from making comments that sympathize with Pakistan or Bangladesh.
