New Delhi, June 21 (H.S.): Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers' Welfare, and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated in yoga exercises today with officials and employees at the Pusa campus in New Delhi, coinciding with the 11th International Yoga Day. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a stable and healthy body through yoga, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a model of diligence and tireless work, illustrating the benefits of yoga. Chouhan highlighted that controlled breathing through pranayama yields miraculous results, reinforcing the notion that a healthy body is essential for achieving happiness and effectiveness in work. He referenced the saying, ‘Shariramadyam Khalu Dharmasadhanam,’ emphasizing that the body is the medium for practicing all forms of spirituality.

Additionally, he shared a personal journey post-accident in 1998, where yoga played a crucial role in his recovery, allowing him to regain a normal and healthy life despite serious injuries. He encouraged making yoga a daily practice rather than a one-day event for better health and happiness, while stressing the need to practice it safely under expert supervision to avoid adverse effects. Chouhan also called on farmers and women to prioritize their health since their responsibilities hinge on their physical well-being. He introduced a “20-20-20 formula”: 20 minutes for asanas, 20 minutes for pranayama, and 20 minutes planning the day’s activities, which can contribute to a successful and meaningful life. The event included participation from Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Dr. M.L. Jat, reinforcing the collective message of health through yoga for all.
