Kolkata, 02 June (H.S.) -A 46-year-old woman died in a tragic road accident in the Behala area of Kolkata on Monday morning. The incident occurred when the woman, while alighting from a moving bus, got entangled in her saree, lost her balance, and fell under the rear wheels of the same vehicle.

According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Yamuna Mandal. The accident took place around 9:30 AM at the busy Sakhherbazar crossing. Mandal was traveling on a bus operating on the Raidighi-Dharmatala route. As she attempted to get down from the bus, her foot got caught in her saree, causing her to stumble and fall. The rear wheel of the bus then ran over her.

Officers from Thakurpukur Police Station rushed to the scene upon receiving information about the incident. The injured woman was immediately taken to Behala Vidyasagar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The police have informed her family and seized the bus involved in the accident.

Following the incident, traffic in the area was disrupted for some time. Eyewitnesses noted that traffic police are usually deployed at the intersection, but no officer was present at the time of the accident. The police are now investigating whether the bus was speeding and whether negligence on the part of the driver or any administrative lapse contributed to the mishap.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and recording statements from witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. The tragic incident has sparked concern among local residents about road safety and traffic regulation in the area.
