Chennai, 2 June (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TNSCHE) has drafted a model policy on technology usage, or e-governance, in higher educational institutions (HEIs) across the state. This policy aims to establish guidelines for effective technology integration in colleges, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in academic and administrative domains.
MP Vijayakumar, Vice Chairperson of TNSCHE, stated that the policy document serves as a comprehensive roadmap to harness the power of e-governance. By embracing digital innovation, the policy envisions a future-ready educational ecosystem aligned with global standards. The policy includes 17 provisions, such as mandatory institutional websites, online student admissions, attendance management, fee payment, and academic calendar management.
The policy also outlines the digitization of recruitment processes for teaching and non-teaching staff, from notification to final selection. Additionally, placement services, including campus recruitment schedules and student placement data, will be managed online. All certificates, including transfer and provisional certificates, will be issued online with secure verification mechanisms.
The implementation of this policy will be overseen by an IT governance committee in each HEI, ensuring compliance and monitoring progress. The draft policy is available for review and feedback from students, faculty members, educational administrators, researchers, policymakers, and the public. This will help refine and strengthen the policy framework.
P Thirunavukkarasu, Vice Chairman of the Association of University Teachers (AUT), welcomed the state government's decision, saying it will ensure transparency and ease administrative work. The data will be easily collectible, making it simpler for HEIs to apply for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation ¹.
