TMC MLA Humayun Kabir Sparks Controversy Again, Seen Threatening Police in Viral Video

Kolkata, 02 June (H.S.) -Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir from Bharatpur in Murshidabad has landed in controversy once again after a video surfaced showing him issuing veiled threats to the police. Known for his provocative remarks, Kabir is seen in the video, dated Sunday, saying that if he were in the opposition, he would have fixed the police within 24 hours. His comments have triggered sharp political reactions and renewed debates over the state’s law and order situation.

In the video, Kabir alleges that common people are suffering due to the behavior of police personnel in areas such as Lalgola, Baratra, Samsherganj, and Bharatpur. “If I were in the opposition, it wouldn’t take me 24 hours to fix this. But now that I’m in the government, my hands are tied,” he said while addressing a public gathering.

Opposition leaders have slammed Kabir for allegedly misusing his political position to intimidate law enforcement. “If an elected representative can issue such threats publicly, it raises serious concerns about the state of law and order,” one opposition member remarked.

The controversy comes close on the heels of another incident involving senior TMC leader Anubrata Mondal. Mondal, the former Birbhum district president, recently drew criticism after an audio clip went viral in which he was heard hurling abuse at a local police inspector. Though he was compelled to issue an apology within 38 minutes of the clip's release, Mondal reportedly avoided police questioning for two days, with his lawyer later citing ill health.

The emergence of Kabir’s remarks has only added fuel to the ongoing political storm, raising fresh questions about the ruling party’s internal discipline. While there has been no official response from the TMC regarding Kabir’s statement, political circles are abuzz with speculation on whether party leadership will take similar disciplinary action as it did in Mondal’s case.
