Bhubaneswar, 2 June (H.S.): A seven-month-old white tiger cub at Nandankanan Zoological Park has died, zoo officials confirmed on Monday. The cub, born to tiger pair Krishna and Rupa in November 2024, had been under medical observation due to prior health issues.
According to zoo authorities, the cub had fallen ill in March and was temporarily removed from its enclosure for treatment. After showing signs of recovery, it was reintroduced to its habitat. However, the cub's sudden demise on Sunday has left staff and visitors deeply saddened.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, officials stated.
The loss of the young cub has cast a shadow over the zoo community and has deeply affected wildlife enthusiasts. Following the incident, Nandankanan’s total tiger population now stands at 27, comprising 18 normal-coloured tigers, five white tigers, and four melanistic tigers.
