New Delhi, June 2(HS): The Supreme Court has declined to hear a petition filed against the Assam government's policy to deport individuals to tackle the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration. The vacation bench headed by Justice Sanjay Karol directed the petitioner to approach the Gauhati High Court. The petition was filed by the BTC Minority Students Union. Advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioner, stated that the Assam government is detaining people suspected of being foreign nationals without legal process and forcibly sending them across the border. He mentioned that the Assam government has been doing this following the Supreme Court's order on February 4. Hegde stated that the Supreme Court had directed that those 63 foreign nationals whose countries had been identified should be deported back to their countries. He noted that a retired school teacher had been sent to Bangladesh. Such actions violate Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. The court then advised the petitioner to go to the High Court.
