New Delhi, June 2 (H.S.): The rise in COVID-19 cases has triggered concerns nationwide, with 28 deaths recorded since January. Currently, there are 3,961 active cases, including four deaths in the past 24 hours. Kerala leads with 1,435 active cases, followed by Maharashtra (506) and Delhi (483). West Bengal has 331, while Gujarat has 338 active cases.

The recent deaths include a 22-year-old woman in Delhi with tuberculosis and a 25-year-old man in Tamil Nadu with asthma, along with patients from Kerala and Maharashtra. The surge is linked to new variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, while GN.1 remains prevalent. Health officials emphasize the importance of hygiene in crowded places and urge those with existing health issues who are unvaccinated or not boosted to exercise caution, as they are at a higher risk of severe illness.
