BJP Leader Arjun Singh Defends Anubrata Mondal, Says Bengal Police Facing the Consequences of Its Own Actions

Kolkata, 2 June (H.S.) — Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Member of Parliament Arjun Singh launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal Police on Monday, defending controversial Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal amidst the uproar over a recently surfaced video allegedly featuring him.

In a strongly worded statement, Singh said, “Whatever is happening with the Bengal Police is well-deserved. This is the result of years of political bias and unjust practices. The force is now facing the consequences of its own actions.”

Singh’s remarks come at a time when the political atmosphere in West Bengal is tense following the circulation of the purported video involving Mondal. Opposition parties have demanded immediate action, while the TMC has so far remained silent on the matter.

Anubrata Mondal is no stranger to controversy. His name has repeatedly come up in serious allegations, including cattle smuggling, money laundering, and issuing political threats. He has been under investigation by central agencies for several years, and the latest video has once again placed him at the center of political debate.

Criticizing the functioning of the West Bengal Police, Singh alleged that the force has consistently acted on the directives of those in power. “The police abandoned impartiality long ago and chose to serve political interests. If they are now under investigation or scrutiny, it is nothing but natural justice,” he said.

“No one is above the law — neither political leaders nor officials,” he added. “If the police are now being questioned, it is simply a reflection of the same system that has been suppressing opposition voices for years.”

Singh’s comments underscore the deepening divide between the BJP and the ruling TMC, and further intensify the debate around the role of law enforcement in politically sensitive cases in the state.
