Guwahati, 2 June (HS): The flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim. According to the report released by the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System, 19 districts of the state are affected by floods. So far two people have killed due to the floods, including a woman from Cachar district and a man from Sribhumi district.
According to the bulletin issued by the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level of Brahmaputra (Dibrugarh and Nimatighat), Dhansiri (Numaligarh), Kapili (Kampur), Katakhal (Matijuri), Barak (BP Ghat) and Kushiyara (Sribhumi) rivers has been recorded above the danger mark.
The report states that 764 villages under 56 revenue circles have been affected. About 3.64 lakh population has been affected by the floods while 3524.38 hectares of crop area has been submerged.
52 relief camps and 103 relief distribution centers have been opened by the state government. A total of 10,272 people have taken shelter in 155 centers, while 45,331 people are receiving relief material outside the camps.
According to the report, a total of 2,35,193 animals have been affected, including 71,538 large animals, 40,017 small animals and 1,23,638 poultry. So far 696 animals (12 large, 28 small and 656 poultry) have been washed away.
So far 53 houses have been completely damaged in the flood, including 45 kutcha and 8 pucca houses. Apart from this, 969 houses have been partially damaged, including 901 kutcha and 68 pucca houses.
The administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations and monitoring is going on continuously in the flood affected areas.
