RaGa defamation case hearing deferred to July 1

Sultanpur,

02 June (HS): The hearing of the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in

Sultanpur's MP-MLA court was postponed on Monday. Due to the condolence motion

of the Bar Association, the advocates abstained from judicial work. The court

has scheduled the next hearing on July 1.

Rahul

Gandhi's lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla said on Monday that due to the condolence

resolution of the Bar Association on the death of advocate Kamal Srivastava,

the lawyers did not do judicial work today. Due to this, the hearing of the

defamation case could not take place.

Hanumanganj

resident of Kotwali Dehat and BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation

complaint against Rahul Gandhi in the court in the year 2018. He had alleged

that Rahul Gandhi had made indecent remarks during the Karnataka elections in

2018. I am hurt by this. The five-year long process went on in the court. When

Rahul Gandhi did not appear, the then judge issued a warrant and summoned him

in December 2023. Then in February 2024, Rahul Gandhi surrendered in the court.

The special magistrate granted him bail on two sureties of 25 rupees each.

After this, Rahul Gandhi was called by the court to record his statement. After

several dates, Rahul reached the court on 26 July and recorded his statement.

Calling himself innocent, he said that a political conspiracy is being hatched

against me.

In

the beginning of the year 2025, when the cross-examination was not completed on

January 2, the court had fixed the dates of January 10 and January 22. On both

these dates, the hearing was again postponed due to the strike of lawyers. When

the date was fixed for January 30, the cross-examination could not take place

due to the ill health of Rahul's lawyer Kashi Shukla. The date of hearing was

fixed on February 11 in the court to complete the cross-examination. In which

Rahul Gandhi's lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla cross-examined the complainant, after

the completion of the cross-examination, the date for cross-examination of the

next witness has been fixed thrice. The court kept fixing dates for the hearing

in the months of April and May.
