02 June (HS): The hearing of the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in
Sultanpur's MP-MLA court was postponed on Monday. Due to the condolence motion
of the Bar Association, the advocates abstained from judicial work. The court
has scheduled the next hearing on July 1.
Rahul
Gandhi's lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla said on Monday that due to the condolence
resolution of the Bar Association on the death of advocate Kamal Srivastava,
the lawyers did not do judicial work today. Due to this, the hearing of the
defamation case could not take place.
Hanumanganj
resident of Kotwali Dehat and BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation
complaint against Rahul Gandhi in the court in the year 2018. He had alleged
that Rahul Gandhi had made indecent remarks during the Karnataka elections in
2018. I am hurt by this. The five-year long process went on in the court. When
Rahul Gandhi did not appear, the then judge issued a warrant and summoned him
in December 2023. Then in February 2024, Rahul Gandhi surrendered in the court.
The special magistrate granted him bail on two sureties of 25 rupees each.
After this, Rahul Gandhi was called by the court to record his statement. After
several dates, Rahul reached the court on 26 July and recorded his statement.
Calling himself innocent, he said that a political conspiracy is being hatched
against me.
In
the beginning of the year 2025, when the cross-examination was not completed on
January 2, the court had fixed the dates of January 10 and January 22. On both
these dates, the hearing was again postponed due to the strike of lawyers. When
the date was fixed for January 30, the cross-examination could not take place
due to the ill health of Rahul's lawyer Kashi Shukla. The date of hearing was
fixed on February 11 in the court to complete the cross-examination. In which
Rahul Gandhi's lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla cross-examined the complainant, after
the completion of the cross-examination, the date for cross-examination of the
next witness has been fixed thrice. The court kept fixing dates for the hearing
in the months of April and May.
