Nagon (Assam), 18 June (HS): A herd of wild elephants damaged the houses of many villagers in the Samaguri area under Nagon district adjacent to Kaziranga National Park. Along with destroying the houses, the wild elephants also destroyed the food items and essential goods kept in the houses. However, the villagers somehow managed to save their lives by running away.
According to local villagers, the herd of elephants entered the residential area and damaged many houses. Walls and roofs were broken. The electric inverter kept in a house was also completely destroyed by the elephants.
However, there is no report of any casualty or injury. According to a villager, everyone was sleeping at night, during this time a loud sound was heard. When he came out and looked, the herd of elephants was destroying the houses. The elephants have caused a lot of damage to the house.
Villagers have alleged that despite repeated calls to the forest department, no help was received on time. Locals have appealed to the forest department, district administration and state government to get rid of this problem permanently. ---------------
