Bareilly,
18 June (HS): On Wednesday, authorities discovered a mortar shell buried
underground near the railway tracks in the Subhash Nagar neighborhood. The
shell was discovered while working for a new embankment with a JCB. Local police and an Army disposal squad
responded and defused the old, unexploded weapon. Anurag Arya, Senior
Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bareilly, stated that they were alerted about
the shell about 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
We
received word that a suspicious object like a mortar shell had been discovered
in a mound of earth being deposited by a JCB near the railway tracks in the
Subhash Nagar police station area.

Arya stated that the local Bareilly Police bomb disposal unit came on the
site. They were joined by an Army
disposal crew, who identified the object as an old mortar shell. The
army unit subsequently securely neutralised the shell, according to the SSP.
