Imphal, 18 June (HS): Security forces in Manipur have arrested four KCP outfits as part of an anti-terrorism operation. These arrests have led to the recovery of illegal weapons and cases of extortion from the general public.
The first arrest was made at Lairikyengbam Makha Lekai under Lanphel police station area in Imphal East district, from where the security forces arrested Haobam Sitaljit Meitei (55). He is a resident of Saizang Awang Lekai, Imphal East. During his search, a nine mm pistol (loaded with magazine), five nine mm live cartridges, three mobile phones and a wallet were seized.
The second arrest was made from Chingmeirong Mamang Lekai in Imphal West district, from where Yumnam Jenika (22), the KCP (MFL) outfit, was arrested. She is a resident of Moirankampu Awang Lekai, Imphal East and was involved in extortion from the general public. One mobile phone and ₹2,500 cash were recovered from her.
The third major action was taken in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou area of Bishnupur district where two KCP (PWG) rebels were arrested. They have been identified as Khomdram Joy Singh alias Khagenba (51) - resident of Nambol Lourenmbam (presently living in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou) and Maibam Memcha Devi (49) - resident of Wangu Mamang Sabal.
One pistol (.32 bore) with one empty magazine and four mobile phones were recovered from the two accused.
Security forces said all these accused were involved in disturbing peace in the state and extorting money from the general public. Further investigation is underway. ---------------
