New Delhi, June 18 (HS): The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) launched the “Sunday on Cycle” initiative to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), collaborating with the Fit India Movement. Held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, the event attracted over 50,000 cyclists, including CBIC officials, representatives from various ministries, and Bollywood celebrities like Suniel Shetty and John Abraham. A dedicated GST help desk named Know About GST was set up to engage participants and provide information on GST benefits, such as the GST Composition Scheme and the Quarterly Return Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme, aimed at easing compliance for small taxpayers. CBIC member Shashank Priya emphasized GST's transformative role in consolidating nearly 30 different indirect taxes into a single framework, simplifying tax management for businesses and citizens.
Informational materials on GST were distributed, and digital kiosks featuring QR codes allowed attendees to download resources directly to their devices. The event also showcased attractive hoardings and banners that highlighted GST reforms and taxpayer-centric initiatives, particularly for MSMEs. The nationwide cyclothon represents a broader strategy to merge public health initiatives with taxpayer engagement, illustrating CBIC's commitment to connect with the public through innovative outreach programs. This initiative aligns with CBIC's vision to make GST more accessible while celebrating eight successful years of this historic tax system in India.
