Guwahati, 18 June (HS): In view of the seriousness of the Barichuk gas blowout, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri expressing concern over the issue.
The Chief Minister has requested Minister Puri to instruct ONGC Limited to speed up well control efforts in mission mode so that the situation does not worsen further.
Dr. Sarma said, The state government is providing all possible relief to the affected people, but ONGC should play a more active role to normalize the situation and reduce the crisis. It is worth mentioned that hundreds of families have been affected by the recent gas blowout in Barichuk and there is a need for swift action to control the situation. On Tuesday, the state government had announced immediate assistance of ₹25,000 each to the affected families from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
