Hooghly, 18 June (H.S.): In a property dispute between two brothers at Beltala Bazar area of Bansberia in Hooghly district, an alleged attempt was made to burn the elder brother's wife alive on Tuesday night. She has been admitted to Chuchura Imambara Hospital in a critical condition. The police have arrested the accused younger brother and his wife.

According to local sources, an elderly woman named Meena Devi Choudhary came out of the house burning in fire on the road at around 8 pm on Tuesday night. Local people were stunned to see her. After extinguishing the fire, she was rescued and admitted to Chuchura Imambara Hospital. The elderly woman's husband Rambabu Choudhary said that he was working in the shop at that time. Local people told him that his wife was burnt in the fire.

The victim's daughter Nisha Choudhary said, Aunty set my mother on fire. When my mother was admitted to the hospital after being burnt, she told me. Aunty used to quarrel with my mother every day. Accused Bindu Chaudhary said, The property dispute has been going on for a long time. Earlier also my sister-in-law has tried to commit suicide several times to scare me. Today also she set herself on fire and left the house. We did not do anything.
