State-Level Medical Teams Deployed to Diarrhoea-Affected Areas in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, 17 June (H.S.): As the situation surrounding the outbreak of waterborne diarrhoeal diseases in several parts of Odisha begins to improve, coordinated efforts by both the state and central governments continue to mitigate the crisis. Additional doctors, paramedical staff, medicines, and awareness materials have already been dispatched to the affected regions, with intensified ground-level awareness drives currently underway.

Acting on the directive of Health and Family Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Shalini Pandit, four independent state-level teams have been deployed to supervise field-level implementation and coordinate ongoing interventions. Each team comprises senior officials, medical specialists, and advisors from the health department. The deployed team members include Joint Director Dr. Ashok Kumar Paikray, Advisor Dr. Kallol Das, IRT Member Surajit Garabadu, Dr. Asit Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Prabhakar Sahu, and Advisor Shri Anup.

These teams will visit areas such as Bhuban, Banki, Dhamnagar, Badachana, and Bhandaripokhari to monitor the diarrhoea mitigation efforts. Their responsibilities include strengthening inter-departmental coordination among field teams and ensuring effective implementation of key measures such as water source purification, house-to-house medical screening, distribution of medicines and halogen tablets, identification and treatment of diarrhoea patients, and public awareness campaigns. The teams will also provide technical support and guidance to make the interventions more impactful and targeted.
