The CID has summoned the former Vice Chancellor of Burdwan University in the case of embezzlement of about two crore rupees in the University. Former Vice Chancellor Nimaichandra Saha has been asked to appear at the CID office at 10:30 am on Wednesday. The CID has said in its letter that Nimaichandra Saha is being called to get detailed information about the embezzlement case of two crore rupees. He has been asked to appear at the Burdwan office of the CID to know the real incident. Arindam Mallick K, President of the University Employees Association, said, When Nimaibabu was the Vice Chancellor, we wanted to know the whole matter from him. We had also demanded the publication of a white paper. But he did nothing. The incident happened just like that, one day suddenly the university officials came to know that about one crore 94 lakh rupees had disappeared from the university account. This money was withdrawn from a government bank in the Bara Bazar area of Burdwan. There was a lot of uproar about how the money of the fixed deposit disappeared before the maturity date.
Notably, the ED has also started investigating the money laundering case. On February 6, 2024, an application was submitted to withdraw the university's fixed deposit money from that bank. The money was asked to be deposited in the account of a contractor company. The bank officials were suspicious as to why the money was asked to be deposited in the account of the contractor company instead of the university's savings account.
