Meerut, 16 June (HS): Police caught
a livestock smuggler in Meerut district following a brief exchange of fire in
which the accused was injured, police said on Monday. Police stated they
discovered an illegal firearm, ammunition, animal butchering instruments, and
injections and syringes used to sedate the animals from the accused's possession.
SP (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra stated on Monday that on June 14, the bones of
deceased cows were discovered in Pachgaon Patti Sanwal hamlet, prompting a
local called Mohanpal to file a case against unknown individuals. Police
attempted to halt several suspicious individuals in Ladpura village on Sunday
night, but they opened fire on the police team, according to the SP.
Yamin alias Toocha, a native of
Kayastha Baddha village, was injured on his left leg during the retaliatory
fire, he added. During investigation, Yamin revealed that he and his associates
sedated cows before slaughtering them and selling the flesh. He also acknowledged to slaughtering the cow,
whose bones were discovered on June 14, according to the officer. He stated
that the accused was facing ten accusations of animal cruelty, theft, and other
offenses filed at several police stations in Meerut district.
