West Bengal, 16 June (H.S.): There is uncertainty about buses in Arambagh on Monday, the first day of the week. The bus owners' association has called for an indefinite bus strike from 7 am on Monday. This is causing inconvenience to the passengers. They have to spend a lot of money to go to work.
The bus owners have gone on strike over several demands, including the losses incurred due to the movement of Toto-autos on bus routes. The bus owners' association said that the strike will continue until the illegal movement of Toto-autos on bus routes is stopped. Meanwhile, public life has been affected due to the strike.
Where every day about 500 buses, including Kolkata local and express buses, from Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan, East Medinipur and West Medinipur in South Bengal used to gather at the stand. On Monday morning, all of them were 'missing'. As a result, the only way to go to the office was by Toto-autos on broken routes.
Speaking about the strike, Baidyanath Nandi, president of Arambagh Bus-Mini Bus Welfare Association, said, We had informed the administration about this strike a month ago. A meeting was held in the district. We also submitted a letter to the District Magistrate. We apologise to the public. But our backs are against the wall. While there were 1,700 buses in Hooghly, today it has come down to 500.
