Ayodhya, 14 June (HS): The local administration has prohibited an
annual Urs celebration in Ayodhya after receiving reports of a probable
violation of peace and a worsening law and order situation, authorities said. The
Urs ceremony, which has taken place here for the previous two decades, was slated
for Saturday and Sunday. Following a
protest from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Ayodhya administration
revoked permission for the 'Dada Miya Urs', which is performed annually at the
Dada Miya Mazaar in the Khanpur Masodha area of district. According to reports, local VHP members Lalji
Sharma and Suryakant Pandey filed a police report alleging that a gathering was
being organized in the name of Ghazi Baba in Khanpur Masodha.
A police inquiry discovered that
the organisers received authorization from the local authority to hold the Urs
under the name Urs Dada Miya. However, they were discovered
collecting money while generating invoices under the name Ghazi Baba
Urs. The complainants further stated that during Urs, the organizers
invite some clergy who purportedly conduct black magic and mislead people. The nod
provided under the name 'Urs Dada Miya' has been canceled when it was
discovered that Urs under the name Ghazi Baba was being prepared, Circle
Officer Ashutosh Tiwari stated. Meanwhile,
no members of the Urs organizing committee have spoken out on the topic.
